The Inmarsat-3 satellites use spot beams to provide high-strength signal coverage for most inhabited areas of the earth. SMART CARD A smart card is a Subscriber Identity Module about the size of a credit card with an embedded electronic chip that provides many personalized features and enhanced security. POWER SOURCES The phone operates from an internal battery, AC converter/charger, or optional DC converter/charger to utilize vehicle battery operation. The battery will operate the phone for approximately 1.2 hours of continuous transmission and reception. When connected to the satellite but not transmitting or receiving, the phone goes into power-saving mode, which increases operational life of the battery to approximately 4.5 hours.
